McDermott has worked in state government for over 28 years.  Most of that time has been spent in various positions with the Legislative Services Agency including serving as Division Director of the Legal Services Division, Division Administrator of the Fiscal Services Division, and Senior Legal Counsel with the Legal Services Division.  Prior to that service, he was a law clerk for both the Supreme Court of Iowa and the Iowa Court of Appeals.  McDermott holds a B.A. in Business Economics from the College of Wooster and a J.D. from the Wake Forest University School of Law.

“We appreciate the work Tim McDermott has done stepping into the role as Interim Director as session began last year. We look forward to continuing to work with Tim McDermott to maintain the high quality of professionalism and service provided by LSA staff to the General Assembly,” Grassley and Whitver said in a joint statement.
