Today, we’re excited to share our endorsement of @Axne4Congress in her campaign for reelection. She’s a proven leader in the fight to protect and advance reproductive freedom for every body! https://t.co/QKjMiIWxa2 #ReproFreedomVoter pic.twitter.com/TcH1ROot8X

It is uncertain whether she will run for re-election to Congress, she has indicated she is also considering possibly running for U.S. Senate or for Governor.

Along with Axne, the abortion rights advocacy group endorsed eleven other members of Congress.

“We are proud to endorse these outstanding Congressional leaders for reproductive freedom at a time when our fundamental rights face unprecedented threats. As anti-choice politicians across the country continue to push an all-out assault on reproductive freedom, we need Congress to do everything it can to protect and advance reproductive freedom,” NARAL Pro-Choice America Chief Campaigns and Advocacy Officer Christian LoBue said in a released statement.

“Each of these leaders has demonstrated their commitment to fighting for the values of the overwhelming majority of Americans who believe every body should have the freedom to decide if, when, and how to start or grow their family. We know these leaders will fight to safeguard abortion access and take bold action to make sure all of our families and communities thrive,” he added.

NARAL opposes any restrictions on abortion and supports repealing the Hyde Amendment that prevents taxpayer funding of abortion.

The Hyde Amendment harms us all, especially low-income folks working to make ends meet. It’s time to get rid of it once and for all. https://t.co/TRnPNo5BfP #BeBoldEndHyde

NARAL also recently expressed support for defunding the police.

“It’s past time to defund the police. After multiple failed attempts to change the culture of policing, it’s clear that police have not succeeded in reckoning with the generations of systemic racism, oppression, and state violence it has engaged in. We must continue to do better,” NARAL tweeted.

Recent polling shows over three-quarters of Americans want some restrictions on abortion, and 77 percent of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for abortion.

The latest Gallup Poll also shows that 67 percent of Americans support some restrictions on abortion.

Only 18 percent of Americans support defunding the police.

The Iowa GOP criticized the endorsement.

“You can tell a lot about Axne’s radical agenda by looking at the company she keeps,” Republican Party of Iowa Communications Director Kollin Crompton said. “Axne wouldn’t receive this type of endorsement unless she was fully on board NARAL’s agenda of defunding the police and their extreme stance on abortion. While Axne likes to portray herself as a moderate back home, her unending support from radicals and leftists tell a different story.”

Axne did not publicly respond to the endorsement.
