DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley on Monday responded to a question about immigration during his weekly “Capitol Hill Report” where he answers questions from two members of the Iowa press.

Dennis Morris of KLEM Radio in LeMars asked about his thoughts on immigration in light of Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent trip to the border which, he added, critics said was a photo op. Morris asked Grassley if the Biden administration was addressing the border crisis issue.

“They are not addressing the issue,” he answered.

“They are the executive branch of government enforcing laws, and they aren’t enforcing the laws. And consequently, they like an open border. And they’re guaranteeing you to have an open border. And as long as we have an open border, it’s going to be difficult to pass legislation dealing with the problems that could otherwise be dealt with,” Grassley stated.

He said Congress could pass legislation now and the United States would still have problems with immigration.

“You got to close down the border,” Grassley stated.
