WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, joined 11 of her Republican colleagues in sending the below letter to House Leadership ahead of the January 6th vote to certify the 2020 election results. The Members affirmed the need to uphold the Constitution and respect states’ authority in the election process.

The lawmakers wrote: “The text of the Constitution is clear. States select electors. Congress does not. Accordingly, our path forward is also clear. We must respect the states’ authority here. Though doing so may frustrate our immediate political objectives, we have sworn an oath to promote the Constitution above our policy goals. We must count the electoral votes submitted by the states.”

Hinson added: “President Trump accomplished so much for Iowa and America. I will continue to advocate for the policies he championed that helped hardworking people. I will be a fierce supporter, as he has been, of tax cuts, responsible energy policy, and protecting life, among other conservative priorities that matter to Iowans.”
