“We have faced many challenges over the last 20 months, and with those challenges, we have seen the quick erosion of our rights and liberties. It is time we the people take back and reaffirm our rights and liberties. It’s about freedom; we need to put the people first,” she said.

Clayton and her husband moved to Spirit Lake in 1996.

Dave Rowley of Spirit Lake also announced his candidacy. He told a local radio station that several people asked him to consider running. Rowley said his goal is to maintain “the great things happening in Iowa” and to be a voice for constituents in Iowa Senate District 1.

Iowa Senate District 1 is located in Clay, Dickinson, Lyon, Osceola, and Palo Alto counties, including Spirit Lake, Spencer, Emmetsburg, Sibley, and Rock Rapids.
