“It’s never been more critical to support strong, conservative candidates, and now more than ever we need more veterans in Congress. I am proud to endorse Zach Nunn for Congress – he’s an Air Force combat veteran and a state senator with a track record of success. He always put service before self, and that’s a rare quality, desperately needed in Washington, D.C. I will do everything I can to support Zach so that together, we can take back a Republican majority in the House and retire Nancy Pelosi,” Pompeo said.

Pompeo has made several trips to Iowa in the last year fueling speculation that he will run for president in 2024.

“I am incredibly honored to have Secretary Mike Pompeo’s endorsement,” Nunn said. “As a veteran, Congressman, former director of the CIA and U.S. Secretary of State, Mike is a strong, conservative leader, who knows what it takes to put Americans and our interests first. His endorsement is critically important as we fight to take back the U.S. House from far-left liberals like Cindy Axne who caused tax hikes, inflation and a national security crisis at our border.”

Nunn is one of three Republicans vying for the nomination to face U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne, D-Iowa, in November.

Nunn, Nicole Hasso of Johnston, and Gary Leffler of West Des Moines, all filed paperwork with the Iowa Secretary of State’s office. Nunn filed 3,000 signatures including reaching the certification threshold of 47 signatures in every county in the newly drawn district.

Both Nunn and Hasso are considered “on the radar” by the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program.

Hasso also received a high-profile endorsement of her own. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, the winner of the 2020 Iowa Caucuses, endorsed her campaign last August. Nunn received an endorsement from American for Prosperity Action in December.

Nunn currently leads the Republican field in fundraising, having raised $456,074 in 2021. Hasso raised $339,971.  Both trail the incumbent, Axne, who raised over $2.7 million in 2021. The next FEC filing deadline for the first quarter in 2022 is due on April 15.
