“I’m proud to endorse Nicole Hasso for Congress. Washington is broken, our border is open, inflation is rising, and our values are under attack. We need new strong leaders in Congress like Nicole Hasso,” Cruz said in a video released Thursday.

He pointed to Hasso’s outsider status as one of the reasons for his endorsement.

“Nicole is an outsider who will take on the Washington swamp and will help fight back against the left’s extremist agenda. Nicole is a mom, a leader, she grew up in inner-city Chicago, and she knows first-hand the incredible damage socialism and the left’s agenda can cause. Too often we will send leaders to Washington who will go along to get along, well, that’s not Nicole,” Cruz added.

I’m proud to endorse @NicoleHasso for election to Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District.

Hasso has not run for office before. She attended Drake University and currently works at Principal Financial Group as an internal wholesaler. Hasso and her husband Mitch have two children.

Hasso is running against former State Rep. Mary Ann Hanusa of Council Bluffs and State Senator Zach Nunn of Bondurant for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne, D-Iowa, in 2022.
