Reynolds Appoints Badding to Iowa Court of Appeals

DES MOINES, Iowa – Gov. Kim Reynolds on Thursday announced her appointment of Judge Gina Badding to the Iowa Court of Appeals.

She will fill the vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of Iowa Court of Appeals Judge Richard H. Doyle of Des Moines on August 7

Badding, of Carroll, has served as a district judge in Iowa’s 2nd Judicial District for nine years. She previously practiced law with Neu, Minnich, Comito, Halbur, Neu & Badding, P.C., in Carroll for six years. Before that she was a staff attorney with the Iowa Court of Appeals for over five years and was supervised by the Judge she will now replace. Badding received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and her law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law.

She also served on the Carroll Community School District Board of Education from 2015 to 2019. She served as a middle school and high school mock trial coach for the Keumper Catholic School System. Badding also served on numerous boards including the United Way, Carroll Public Library Foundation, and Community Foundation of Carroll County.

Reynolds chose Badding over District Court Judge Joel Barrows of Bettendorf and District Court Judge Mary Chicchelly of Cedar Rapids who were also nominated by the State Judicial Nominating Commission. Reynolds had thirty days to make her selection from the three nominees within 30 days of their nomination by the commission.

The Iowa Court of Appeals is Iowa’s intermediate appellate court. It is composed of nine judges and decides appeals from district courts across Iowa.
