DES MOINES, Iowa – On Tuesday, Brenna Bird released the second television ad of her campaign, titled “Tragedy.” The Republican challenger’s ad attacks Democrat incumbent Attorney General Tom Miller of refusing to confine a child molester “indefinitely,” and instead, allowing the offender, a biological male, to go free after identifying as a transgender female and undergoing a male-to-female sex “reassignment” surgery.

The ad features Josie Smith, a repeat sexual predator who molested at least 15 children in Louisiana and Iowa, including other offenses. Miller initially sought to confine the individual “indefinitely” at a Civil Commitment facility for sex offenders. But once Smith underwent treatment for gender reassignment, Miller reversed course and sought to dismiss his pursuit for confinement, ultimately allowing the child molester to go free. Smith went on to commit a child pornography offense that sent Smith back to prison. The story was documented by the Storm Lake Times.

“The Iowa Attorney General has the responsibility to keep Iowans safe and fully prosecute threats to our neighborhoods,” Bird said. “Tom Miller refused to do that and used a sex change as the basis to allow a convicted child molester to go free. Enough is enough. It’s time for a new Attorney General.”

The Bird Campaign ad will run statewide in multiple media markets. Bird’s campaign has been on the airwaves since September 6th. Her campaign recently received a $1 million contribution from the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA), as they see the Iowa Attorney General’s race as their top pick up opportunity this cycle.

Brenna Bird is the Republican candidate for Attorney General of Iowa challenging incumbent Democrat Tom Miller, she challenged Miller unsuccessfully in 2010. As the elected County Attorney for Guthrie County since 2018, Bird has helped keep Iowa families safe by getting criminals off the street, advocating for victims of crime, and standing up for law enforcement. Bird has been a prosecutor since 2016 and her leadership has been recognized by county attorneys throughout Iowa who have chosen her as President-elect of the Iowa County Attorney Association.
