MOVILLE, Iowa – The Iowa Firearms Coalition (IFC) released their first video ad ahead of Election Day. The ad aims to encourage membership to the organization and educate viewers why leaders in Iowa’s law enforcement community plan to vote in favor of a proposed constitutional amendment that would add gun rights to the Iowa Constitution.

Iowa legislators in 2021 passed the proposed amendment for the second time. The amendment reads, “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The sovereign state of Iowa affirms and recognizes this right to be a fundamental individual right. Any and all restrictions of this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”

Only six states, which includes Iowa, Minnesota, Maryland, California, New York and New Jersey, do not already have gun rights language in their respective state constitutions.

IFC’s ad highlights Cedar County Sheriff Warren Wethington, an IFC Board Member who has received national and state-wide attention for his efforts to safeguard the civil liberties of those he serves in his community.

“Sheriff Wethington has become a symbol of liberty, freedom and civil rights in Iowa, who is respected and supported by folks of all political stripes,” said IFC President, Dave Funk. “Sheriff Wethington understands the importance of having state-level protections for our most important constitutional rights, and we are grateful for his support.”
