Miller-Meeks: A New Year and a New Congress

Mariannette Miller-Meeks: I am very optimistic about what a Republican Congress will do for the American people.

U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, represents Iowa's 1st Congressional District.

A new Republican Congress will be sworn in with a promise to Americans—an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future built on freedom, and government that is accountable as its four pillars.

For the last two years, Democrats in Congress have spent trillions of dollars on their partisan agenda, with another $1.7 trillion laden bill passed this week. I was proud to join Senators Ernst and Grassley along with Representatives Feenstra and Hinson in voting no for this outrageous deficit spending package.

A Republican Congress will reign in wasteful government spending. Your hard-earned tax dollars should not be spent on things like a $3.8 million trail in Atlanta, Georgia. Out of control spending like this has caused inflation to increase dramatically under the Biden administration. In January, my Republican colleagues and I will introduce legislation to rein in this over-the-top wasteful spending.

One of my top priorities, and that of the Republican majority, in the upcoming Congress is to lower energy prices for Iowans and Americans. Iowa is home to an abundance of clean energy sources such as wind, solar, and biofuels including E15. Unfortunately, the Biden administration has chosen to outsource our energy production to countries such as Saudi Arabia and Venezuela instead of unleashing domestic American energy. This upcoming Congress, I will introduce legislation that will open Iowa and the United States for energy production to make the United States a leading energy exporter.

This Congress, we will also introduce common sense legislation to secure our southern border. Despite both parties agreeing that our immigration system needs to be reformed, Democrats refuse to include funding to secure our border, allowing over four million illegal immigrants to enter our country—bringing with them criminals and illicit drugs.

I am very optimistic about what a Republican Congress will do for the American people. We were elected to deliver results, lower prices, and hold the Biden administration accountable, and we will uphold our promise to the American people.
