DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Senator Tim Scott, R-S.C., will headline U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson’s annual BBQ Bash on Sunday, August 28, 2022. The freshman Republican Congresswoman from Marion also announced that U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Gov. Kim Reynolds will also speak at the event at the Linn County Fairgrounds in Central City.

Hinson’s inaugural event in 2021 featured U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and had 700 in attendance. Hinson seeks re-election in the newly drawn Iowa 2nd Congressional District. Her Democratic challenger is State Senator Liz Mathis of Hiawatha.

Scott, 56, has made several trips to Iowa recently. He spoke at the FAMiLY Leadership Summit in Des Moines in 2019. In addition, he campaigned for U.S. Senator Joni Ernst ahead of her 2020 re-election campaign. Scott also headlined an event for the Republican Party of Iowa in Davenport in 2021. He most recently spoke at a Republican Party of Iowa event in Cedar Rapids with Ernst in June.

Scott served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2009 to 2011. He was elected to Congress in 2010, serving in the U.S. House of Representatives representing South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District until 2013, when then-Governor Nikki Haley appointed him to the U.S. Senate to replace former U.S. Senator Jim DeMint.

“Ashley Hinson is a rising star in the Republican Party and an incredibly effective legislator – delivering results for her district and fighting back against the Biden-Pelosi-Mathis agenda that is taking our country in the wrong direction. She is leading the fight to rein in reckless spending and is taking on the chaos and dysfunction in Washington under a Democratic majority. I’m thrilled to be coming to Iowa to support Ashley at her BBQ Bash,” Scott said in a released statement.

Tickets are available for purchase for $40, and kids 12 and under can attend free. Tickets can be purchased here.
