DES MOINES, Iowa – Gov. Kim Reynolds on Wednesday announced her appointment of Robert Tiefenthaler, 53, as a district court judge in Judicial District 3B.
Tiefenthaler of Sergeant Bluff currently practices law as a sole practitioner in Sioux City. Tiefenthaler received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota and his law degree from the University of South Dakota Law School. He primarily focused on criminal defense and personal injury in his private practice.
He is a member of the Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota bar associations, the Iowa Association for Justice, and the South Dakota Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers. He currently volunteers as a youth basketball coach with Sioux City Westside Connection.
Reynolds selected Tiefenthaler over Andrea Buckley of Sioux City, who was also nominated by the district nominating committee. Seven candidates applied and were interviewed for the vacancy.
Tiefenthaler fills the vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of District Court Judge Jeffrey Poulson. Judicial District 3B includes Crawford, Ida, Monona, Plymouth, Sioux, and Woodbury counties.
