WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Iowans for Tax Relief (ITR), announced the promotion of Chris Hagenow to President on Wednesday. Hagenow joined ITR as Vice President in November 2020.

Hagenow served 12 years in the Iowa House, representing parts of Dallas and Polk Counties. During his time at the Capitol, he served in various leadership roles, including House Majority Leader from 2016 to 2019.

“Iowa is moving forward. We have built strong momentum on conservative policy, but much more work is ahead of us,” said Hagenow. “As the voice of the taxpayer, ITR will lead the charge to remove barriers and allow Iowans to keep more of their money. Taxpayer victories will always be under attack from the government’s insatiable appetite to spend your tax dollars.”

Chris is a sixth-generation Iowan. He grew up in Cedar Falls, graduated from Northern University High School, and the University of Northern Iowa Magna Cum Laude. Chris earned his JD from the University of Iowa College of Law.

Outgoing ITR President Chris Ingstad will now serve as President of Iowans for Tax Relief Foundation, a charitable organization that educates the public about limited government principles. Ingstad said, “Chris Hagenow’s experience inside the Capitol will help amplify the voices across Iowa calling for a government that looks out for the taxpayer and delivers more economic freedom. He’s already been instrumental in mapping out strategies for historic legislative victories since joining the organization.”

ITR also announced the promotion of Dan Steele to Vice President. Steele has a combined 20 years with the organization, most recently serving in the role of Communications Director.

ITR works to limit government spending, taxes, and regulations. The organization was established in 1978 and is one of the largest taxpayer protection organizations in the country. ITR doesn’t work for just one business or interest group; they represent all Iowa taxpayers.
