DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne, D-Iowa, in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District is one of the targets of a six-figure campaign by Susan B. Anthony List and Women’s Speak Out PAC called #Terrible20 focused on 20 vulnerable House and Senate Democrats who have not opposed taxpayer funding of abortion.
Axne has not supported the Hyde Amendment and other similar riders in bills that prevent the use of taxpayer money for abortions.
“Most Americans oppose taxpayer funding for abortion on demand, yet a majority of Democrats have no problem ignoring their constituents to vote in lock-step with the abortion industry. Senators and representatives who insist on forcing taxpayers to fund abortion on demand and support barbaric, late abortions without limits must and will face the consequences of their extremism at the ballot box. SBA List’s ongoing campaign to expose abortion extremism in battleground states and districts includes a multifaceted education campaign and even door to door visits from our field team,” said Mallory Quigley, SBA List vice president of communications and Women Speak Out national spokeswoman.
The campaign began Monday with a digital ad and grassroots phone call campaign and includes a three-state press tour beginning Tuesday in North Carolina.
The two Senate Democrats being targeted are U.S. Senators Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., and Mark Kelly, D-Ariz. Along with Axne, 16 additional House Democrats are targeted as well, they include U.S. Reps. Deborah Ross, NC-02, Tom O’Halleran, AZ-01, Stephanie Murphy, FL-07, Lucy McBath, GA-06, Carolyn Bourdeaux, GA-07, Sharice Davids, KS-03, Jared Golden, ME-02, Elissa Slotkin, MI-08, Haley Stevens, MI-11, Christopher Pappas, NH-01, Tim Ryan, OH-13, Susan Wild, PA-07, Matt Cartwright, PA-08, Conor Lamb, PA-17, Vicente Gonzalez, TX-15, Elaine Luria, VA-02, and Peter DeFazio, OR-04.

“Cindy Axne and the liberals in Washington have an extreme abortion agenda. They support painful late-term abortions to the moment of birth, even at nine months. Now they want to overturn decades of bipartisan consensus that taxpayers shouldn’t foot the bill for abortions. That’s right, Axne and her radical allies want to force you to pay for abortion, even painful late-term abortions. Tell Congresswoman Axne, don’t force Iowa taxpayers to pay for abortioins,” the 30-second ad says.
The digital ad campaign follows Axne’s recent endorsement from NARAL, a national abortion-rights group.
Recent polling shows over three-quarters of Americans want some restrictions on abortion, and 77 percent of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for abortion.
The latest Gallup Poll also shows that 67 percent of Americans support some restrictions on abortion.
