DES MOINES, Iowa – Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will head back to Iowa to speak at a social conservative event in July. The FAMiLY Leader announced that Pompeo, who also previously served as the director for the Central Intelligence Agency and as a member of Congress, would speak at their Family Leadership Summit on July 16 in Des Moines.
“We are grateful to once again welcome nationally prominent voices and leaders to Iowa for the FAMiLY Leadership Summit,” Bob Vander Plaats, president, and CEO of The FAMiLY Leader, said in a released statement. “From pastors, authors, and entertainers, to thought leaders and elected officials, the Summit’s star-studded lineups through the years are a recognition of the prominence Iowa plays in the national discussion and the unique stage the Summit provides to explore how faith impacts every sphere of life.”
“Now in its tenth year, with the addition of Secretary Pompeo and more speakers yet to be announced. I genuinely believe this will be the best FAMiLY Leadership Summit yet!” he added.
This event marks Pompeo’s third visit to Iowa in the past year fueling speculation about a potential 2024 presidential run. He spoke at last summer’s Family Leadership Summit, and he spoke at the Westside Conservative Club in March.
Pompeo joins South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as a speaker at this event. Noem is also considered a prospective presidential candidate in 2024. She headlined a fundraising dinner for the Pottawattamie County Republican Party in Council Bluffs in September.
Another prospective presidential contender in 2024, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, will also be in Iowa this summer. She will speak at the Republican Party of Iowa’s Lincoln Dinner on June 24. That event will be her second visit to Iowa after headling U.S. Senator Joni Ernst’s Roast and Ride in 2019.
The Family Leadership Summit’s speaking lineup also includes conservative talk show host Steve Deace, New York Times best selling author Joel C. Rosenberg, former Solicitor General of the United States Ken Starr, Vander Plaats, and Dr. Michael Youssef, the senior pastor of Church of the Apostles in Atlanta and is the executive president of Leading the Way.
The Family Leadership Summit on July 16 will be held at the Community Choice Credit Convention Center in Des Moines. To learn more about the event and to register, you can visit their website here.
