WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, released a video statement (watch above) addressing Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s effort to overturn the will of voters in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District to unseat U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, who was sworn in on a provisional basis last Sunday.

Miller-Meeks after a district-wide recount won her race by six votes and the results were certified by the state of Iowa. Her Democratic opponent, Rita Hart, instead of challenging the results through the process provided by Iowa law, opted instead to challenge the results before the U.S. House Committee on Administration, a process allowed under the Federal Contested Election Act.

The last time this process was used was in 1984 when the U.S. House of Representatives voted to seat the late U.S. Rep. Frank McClosky, D-Ind., after Indiana certified his Republican challenger, Richard McIntyre, as the winner. Then Speaker Tip O’Neill refused to seat McIntyre when McClosky challenged the results. A recount by the General Accounting Office found McClosky the winner by four votes.

“We all know Speaker Pelosi will do anything to get ahead and grab more power for herself. She is emboldened by the Democrat wins in Georgia last night and thinks she is unstoppable.

“Usually, she does this right out in the open. But right now, she is sneakily laying the groundwork to overturn the voices of Iowans who elected Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks to serve and speak for them in Congress.

“The Democrats are already well underway with a REAL effort to steal this seat from Iowans.

“The votes were counted—and recounted—and Congresswoman Miller-Meeks won her race fair and square.

“Rita Hart chose to bypass the Iowa court system and let Nancy Pelosi be the ultimate judge of this case. Pelosi does not speak for Iowans and it’s why they overwhelmingly rejected her agenda at the ballot box. If we don’t do everything we can to stop her, she will trample on the law and overturn the will of Iowa voters.

“The only thing stopping Pelosi’s latest power grab is us.
I am doing everything I can to prevent her from getting away with this.

“Stand with Iowans, Reach out to your representatives and tell them to reject this effort. Help us stop Speaker Pelosi.”
