DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, officially filed for re-election for Iowa’s newly drawn 2nd Congressional District. She submitted over 6,600 signatures to the Iowa Secretary of State’s office, more than triple the number required for a congressional candidate, with over 100 signatures from each of the 22 counties. The Hinson campaign said they engaged over 350 volunteers from every county in the district to help collect signatures.

“I just officially filed to run for re-election in Iowa’s new 2nd Congressional District. Thank you to the hundreds of dedicated grassroots volunteers that knocked on doors, hosted events, and asked their friends and neighbors to join Team Hinson. Today, we are sending a clear message that Iowans want to keep this seat red and, together, we will win again in November,” Hinson said in a released video after submitting her signatures.

Hinson currently represents Iowa’s 1st Congressional District and was first elected to Congress in 2020, defeating the Democratic incumbent Abby Finkenauer.

She serves on the House Appropriations Committee, including Subcommittee on Homeland Security and Subcommittee on Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies. Hinson also serves on the House Budget Committee.

The newly drawn 2nd Congressional District is located in northeast Iowa, where the current 1st Congressional District is located. The new district has 22 counties compared to 20 counties in the current 1st District. It has a population of 797,589.
