VAN METER, Iowa – Former U.S. Rep. David Young, R-Iowa, announced his campaign for the Iowa House of Representatives in the new Iowa House District 28.
“Serving Iowans at any level of government is an honor and a service which I take seriously with great humility and responsibility,” Young said in a released statement.
“I look forward to working for my fellow Iowans and creating new opportunities for them by strengthening our schools and economy, maintaining fiscal discipline with a balanced budget, supporting our law enforcement, and protecting our freedoms and liberties,” he continued.
“Iowans know the value of government accountability, empowering people, common sense solutions, and plain old hard work. I will bring those qualities and more to the table and I look forward to being a strong advocate and delivering positive results for the people of southeast Dallas County in the Iowa House of Representatives,” Young added.
Young served as U.S. Congressman for Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District from 2015-2019. He lost re-election to a third term to his Democratic challenger, Cindy Axne, in 2018 by 49.3 percent to 47.1 percent, a margin of 7,709 votes. Young lost to U.S. Rep. Axne again in a closer rematch in 2020 – 48.9 percent to 47.5 percent with 6,208 votes separating the two.
Before serving in the U.S.Congress, Young served Iowans as Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley from 2006-2013.
Young is a seventh generation Iowan and was born and raised in Van Meter where he resides today. Young graduated from Johnston High School and Drake University.
Iowa House District 28 is located in Dallas County and spans from southwestern West Des Moines and runs west through Booneville, Van Meter, and up to Adel. It is an open seat after State Rep. Carter Nordman, R-Adel, who was drawn into that district announced he will move to a new home in the new Iowa House District 47.
