DES MOINES, Iowa – On Tuesday, State Rep. Cecil Dolecheck, R-Mount Ayr, announced his plan to retire from the Iowa House after serving out his current term through 2022.
He currently represents Iowa House District 24 that includes Page, Taylor, and Ringgold counties, as well as, the southern third of Montgomery County. He was first elected to the Iowa House in 1996.
“I have decided not to seek re-election to the Iowa House of Representatives in the 2022 general election. It has been an honor and a privilege serving southwest Iowa for over a quarter of a century,” Dolecheck, 70, said in a written statement.
“I will complete my 13th term or 26th year as your public servant to the best of my ability,” he added. “I hope and pray that my service to my constituents has been honorable, honest, and sincere. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people in southwest Iowa who have honored and supported me throughout my years of public service.”
Dolecheck current serves as the chairman of the Administration and Rules Committee. He also serves on the House Education, Environmental Protection, Human Resources, and Labor committees. He is also a member of the Education Appropriations Subcommittee.
After redistricting, he was drawn into the new Iowa House District 17, that includes parts of Page and Union counties, as well as, Adams, Taylor, and Ringgold counties, which will now be an open seat in the 2022 election.
