DES MOINES, Iowa – Former State Rep. Mary Ann Hanusa, R-Council Bluffs, announced her candidacy last month in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District. She is the first prospective Republican challenger to Congresswoman Cindy Axne, D-West Des Moines, to announce.

She released a campaign video on Thursday called “DIY.” Hanusa begins the video referencing rioting sparked by the death of George Floyd and then appeals to Trump voters by saying she’ll continue to fight for his agenda.

Watch the video above and read the transcript below:

“Plywood to board up a business destroyed by leftist tyranny.

“Paying glass for a window shattered by Antifa.

“Fresh paint on a wall defaced by rioters graffiti.

“America seems broken. But with the right tools, we can fix anything.

“I’m Mary Ann Hanusa, and I believe the American dream is DIY.

“Growing up in my family’s hardware store, we put the right tools in lots of Americans’ hands.

“Iowans aren’t scared of hard work or getting our hands dirty.

“When something breaks down, we roll up our sleeves and fix it. That’s a life the left won’t ever understand.

“They want it all handed to them on a platter, and they’ll burn anything and cancel anybody to get their way.

“But that’s not the America we build.

“Pioneer sweat and patriot blood forge this nation from the ground up.

“And I won’t let anyone tear that down.

“I am Mary Ann Hanusa, and I’m running for Congress because we got a country to fix.

“That means opening up our economy, securing our southern border, shutting down cancel culture, and stopping the radical socialist for good.

“I promise to continue what Donald Trump started – giving you the tools to build your American dream.

“Because while Washington may be broken, as long as Iowa keeps building, the future will always be in our hands.”

Hanusa served five terms in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2011 to 2021. She also previously served in the White House under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2008 in the personal correspondence department.
