DES MOINES, Iowa – Nikki Haley, a former ambassador to the United Nations and governor of South Carolina, endorsed Gov. Kim Reynolds in her 2022 re-election bid on Thursday through her Stand for America PAC.

Reynolds has not announced her re-election plans, though it is widely expected that she will run again, and it’s uncertain whether she will have a primary challenge. No Democrat has announced a gubernatorial campaign yet as well though there is some speculation. U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne, D-Iowa, said that she has not ruled out a run for U.S. Senate or governor. State Auditor Rob Sand is another prospective candidate.

Haley makes her announcement almost one year before the primary election that will be on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

“Kim Reynolds is a solid leader who fights for the people of Iowa. In her time as governor, she cut taxes, took on the federal government while fighting for small business, and improved access to childcare for working parents. She’s one of the best governors in the country and I’m proud to endorse her for re-election,” she said in a released statement.

Haley is considered a potential presidential candidate within the Republican field in 2024. Reynolds will be a sought-after endorsement leading up to the Iowa Caucus. She did not endorse a candidate in 2012 or 2016 when she was Lt. Governor and it is not certain she will endorse a candidate in 2024.
