The Iowa Republican Party State Central Committee officially set January 15, 2024 as the date for the 2024 Republican Iowa Caucus.

Iowa Republicans set 2024 caucus date

DES MOINES, Iowa – On Saturday the Iowa Republican Party State Central Committee officially set January 15, 2024 as the date for the 2024 Republican Iowa Caucus.

“The Republican Party of Iowa is proud to announce that we will officially hold our 2024 First-in-the-Nation Caucus on January 15, 2024,” Iowa GOP Chair Jeff Kaufmann said in a released statement.

“After our state legislature and governor took needed action earlier this year to preempt Iowa Democrats’ plans to derail the Iowa Caucus by running a de facto primary election instead, we are also proud to affirm that Iowa will continue to honor our half-century-old promises to the other carveout states,” he added. “We remain committed to maintaining Iowa’s cherished First-in-the-Nation Caucuses, and look forward to holding a historic caucus in the coming months and defeating Joe Biden come November 2024.”

The Iowa Democratic Party’s state central committee approved a 2024 caucus delegation plan in early June that would expand those participating to include those who send in mail-in ballots. The plan meant address criticisms of the caucus process by the national Democratic leadership, including President Joe Biden, that caucuses are not inclusive enough.

The Democratic National Committee approved a presidential nominating calendar stripping Iowa Democrats of their First in the Nation status. However, state law that requires Iowa to hold its caucuses first.

In May, the Iowa Legislature passed, and Gov. Kim Reynolds signed, a bill that requires caucuses to be held in person.

The Republican Party of Iowa on July 28 will hold their Lincoln Dinner that will feature the 13 of the 14 Republican presidential candidates, they are:

  • President Donald J. Trump
  • Governor Ron DeSantis
  • Vice President Mike Pence
  • Ambassador Nikki Haley
  • Senator Tim Scott
  • Vivek Ramaswamy
  • Governor Asa Hutchinson
  • Larry Elder
  • Perry Johnson
  • Governor Doug Burgum
  • Mayor Francis Suarez
  • Ryan Binkley
  • Representative Will Hurd
