U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, represents Iowa's 2nd Congressional District.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, joined her colleagues in sending a bipartisan letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig, urging him to remove bureaucratic red tape causing delays for many Americans in need of critical financial assistance amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The lawmakers asked the IRS to provide a timely solution for those Americans who qualify for an Economic Impact Payment but have not yet filed their 2020 tax returns.

The lawmakers wrote: “On December 21, 2020, Congress passed the latest COVID-19 relief package, which included $600 direct payments to nearly all Americans. These direct payments have garnered bipartisan support because they are one of the quickest ways to get financial relief directly into the pockets of the American people. Unfortunately, the IRS’s decision to direct people who have not received their EIPs to wait to file their 2020 taxes would delay getting these checks out to people as soon as possible.”
