She said to reporters after her first “Big Barn Bash” at the Dallas County Fairgrounds featuring Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Saturday. Reynolds name has been floated as a potential running mate, and DeSantis said at a recent campaign event when asked that he would consider her as his running mate following former President Donald Trump attacking Reynolds for her neutrality.

“I think Governor Reynolds is an awesome governor, and has done a great job for our state and I know a lot of people have been talking about that. That is up to her what she would decide there, but she would be an asset to any president of the United States. And, honestly, I think she would be a good president herself given the leadership she has shown in our state,” Bird said.

She also reiterated her neutrality for the 2024 Republican Iowa Caucus when asked about how DeSantis stood out from Trump.

“I have been hosting all of the candidates in Iowa and am neutral in the caucuses, but it has been a real privilege to get to host Governor DeSantis and his wife Casey. I thought the crowd responded really well to his message. They definitely want a new president, some body who will uphold our laws and constitution and get our country back on track. So it was a great event tonight,” Bird said.

Responding to a question about the latest Trump indictment, Bird responded, “I believe politics has absolutely no place in prosecution. As a prosecutor, I never cared what somebody’s political beliefs or political party was in upholding the law, and that is the way we should be. We need to get back to that as a country.”
