DES MOINES, Iowa – Gov. Kim Reynolds appointed Mary Mosiman the new Director of the Iowa Department of Revenue (IDR) on Tuesday, effective March 29, 2023. Mosiman served as the department’s Deputy Director and Tax Management Division Administrator.
“Mary’s leadership of the department’s tax division and her service as co-sponsor of a multi-year tax modernization effort have prepared her well to serve as director of this critical state department,” Reynolds stated. “Mary is an exceptional public servant and I look forward to her serving in my cabinet.”
“I greatly appreciate Governor Reynolds’ trust in me to serve in this capacity,” Mosiman said. “It is an honor to lead the team of dedicated professionals at the Department of Revenue and to serve Iowans in this role.”
Mosiman graduated from Hubbard High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business/Accounting from Iowa State University.
Mosiman was appointed as State Auditor by former Governor Terry Branstad in 2013 to replace David Vaudt who resigned. Mosiman won re-election to a full term in 2014, but was defeated by Democratic challenger Rob Sand in 2018. Before that she served as the Deputy of Elections for the Iowa Secretary of State from January 2011 to May 2013; and Story County Auditor from January 2001 to December 2010.
Mosiman replaces Kraig Paulsen, who has served as IDR’s Director since 2019. Since October 2021, he has served concurrently as Director of the Iowa Department of Management, a position he will retain as he manages the implementation of Reynolds’ state government alignment initiative.
