“Bill Gustoff brings strong character, a great experience base in our Iowa Capitol and the business community, and legal expertise that prepare him well to be a legislator,” said campaign chairman and former State Representative Kevin Koester. “He cares about people and has solid relationships that will help him serve our community and state from Altoona to Ankeny, plus parts between.”

Gustoff is president of the legal division for a national charitable estate planning and planned giving firm, and an attorney with the law firm of Hagenow Gustoff & Karas LLP in Des Moines. He is also a longtime advocate for community issues at local and state levels, and a volunteer board member for numerous nonprofit organizations. Gustoff has been on the State Central Committee of the Republican Party of Iowa for eight years, being selected in each of those terms by his peers to serve as the party’s treasurer.

“Iowa has shown itself to be a national leader in sound fiscal policy, strong economic growth, and protecting individual liberties,” Gustoff said in his announcement. “I look forward to working with Governor Reynolds and the Iowa legislature to keep Iowa top in the nation.”

Iowa House District 40 includes the city of Altoona, a small portion of Ankeny and northeast Des Moines, and unincorporated areas of Saylor and Delaware Townships. The diverse district includes its many residents along with businesses such as Facebook, Adventureland, Outlets of Des Moines, and Prairie Meadows. Iowa House District 40 is an open seat.

Gustoff lives in Saylor Township with his wife of 30 years, Sara, both Iowa natives.  They have four children, two of whom are still at home.
