Reynolds Appoints Joshua Schier as District Court Judge

Gov. Kim Reynolds announced her appointment of Joshua Schier as a district court judge in Judicial Election District 8B to replace retiring Judge Mark Kruse.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Gov. Kim Reynolds on Friday announced her appointment of Joshua Schier of Burlington as a district court judge in Judicial Election District 8B.

The district judicial nomination commission nominated Schier and Justin Stonebrook of Burlington for her consideration after interviewing five candidates on December 20.

Schier, 41, currently practices law with the Cray Law Firm in Burlington. Schier received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in American History from Western Illinois University and his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law. 

He currently serves on the boards of Mississippi Valley Council of the Boys Scouts of America, Camp Eastman Development Association, Burlington Notre Dame Foundation, Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services, Burlington Parks and Recreation Endowment Fund, and Des Moines County Historical Society. He also volunteers as an assistant scoutmaster for a local Boys Scout troop.

Schier fills the vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of District Court Judge Mark Kruse. Judicial Election District 8B includes Des Moines, Henry, Lee, and Louisa counties.
