DES MOINES, Iowa – State Rep. Michael Bergan, R-Dorchester, announced his re-election bid for Iowa House. Bergan currently represents Iowa House District 55. Under the newly confirmed redistricting maps, will run for Iowa House District 63 in 2022.
“Serving my community in the Iowa House is a great honor,” said Bergan. “I’m thankful to the voters of HD 55 for giving me the opportunity to serve them in the statehouse. I hope to continue my work to support Iowa agriculture, increase access to mental health, and revitalize rural Iowa while representing this new district.”
Iowa House District 63 includes Howard, Winneshiek and the northernmost part of Fayette County. Bergan’s current district, which he will continue to represent through 2022, includes Portions of Winneshiek and Fayette Counties and a small portion of Clayton County.
Speaker of the Iowa House Pat Grassley said Bergan’s attention to detail makes him a valuable member of the House Republican caucus.
“Representative Bergan works hard on behalf of his district,” said Grassley. “Bergan can be trusted to dig deep into the issues to ensure that what we pass is the best, most effective solution for Iowa. I look forward to continuing to work with him in the Iowa House.”
Bergan will be seeking his fourth term in the Iowa House. His career as an income tax preparer, former county supervisor, and coordinator of early childhood services provides a strong foundation for work in the legislature. He lives near Dorchester with his wife Carol. Together they have two daughters.
