U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, represents Iowa's 1st Congressional District.

Thanksgiving is a classic American celebration that is deeply rooted in our history. It is my favorite holiday—a time to reflect on everything for which we are thankful. I have always enjoyed joining family members in preparing dinner, baking pies, playing games, and sharing the meal together around the table.

We have a Thanksgiving tradition in my household where we hold hands and bless the meal and then go around the dinner table sharing what we are thankful for, and positive stories we have experienced throughout the year.

I am very thankful for my wonderful family, specifically my husband, Curt, and our two children, Jonathon and Taylor. I am also incredibly blessed to represent the Second District of the great state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

I am thankful for my constituents who have put their faith and trust in me to represent them as they drive and guide me every day to deliver positive results for Iowa.

I could go on and on about all the things I am thankful for, but I believe it is very important today that we all take a moment to thank our servicemembers and veterans.

Many servicemen and women currently deployed overseas will not have the opportunity to see their family this year because of the commitment they made to keep our country safe and free. We must always honor their sacrifice, and I wish every veteran, servicemember, and their loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone has a healthy and joyous holiday with family and friends!
