DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, was selected by GOP Leadership to co-chair the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Gun program. This program provides strategic and financial assistance to top Republican Congressional candidate recruits across the country. Hinson herself was named a Young Gun in the spring of 2020. Hinson said the program’s assistance was vital to her and many of her new colleagues’ victories. She will serve in this role alongside U.S. Reps Tony Gonzales of Texas, Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma and Bryan Steil of Wisconsin.
“The NRCC’s Young Gun program was key to my success in 2020, and I’m honored to help lead this program for the 2022 cycle. Americans are forcefully rejecting the Democrats’ agenda—we need to build off of our momentum going into the midterms. Our Young Gun candidates will be crucial in helping Republicans take back the House next year, and I look forward to serving with them in Congress when we win back the majority,” Hinson said in a released statement.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., touted Hinson’s time in Congress.
“Ashley Hinson has made a huge impact in her short time in Congress, and I couldn’t be more excited that she will be leading the charge as a co-chair for the Young Guns program in 2022. Together, we’ll help our candidates cross the finish line to victory and win key seats so that we can take back the House in 2022,” he said.
Hinson flipped Iowa’s 1st Congressional District in 2020 defeating former U.S. Rep. Abby Finkenauer, D-Iowa, and serves on the House Budget and Appropriations Committees. She announced that she will be running for re-election to Iowa’s new 2nd Congressional District in 2022, and she broke Iowa’s off-year fundraising records in Q2 and Q3 of 2021. Hinson has been actively recruiting strong candidates to run for Congress to best position Republicans to take back the House in 2022 and recently joined the RSLC’s Right Leaders Network to help mentor future candidates.
