Axne Says She Supports Withdrawing from Afghanistan

U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne, D-Iowa, told WHO-TV News at the Iowa State Fair that she supports President Joe Biden's remarks that it is time to leave Afghanistan.

DES MOINES, Iowa – On Monday, U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne, D-Iowa, told WHO-TV News at the Iowa State Fair that she supports President Joe Biden’s remarks that it is time to leave Afghanistan. Axne was out at the Iowa State Fair to help out at the Iowa Pork Producers tent.

“We’ve had troops in there for a couple of decades. through multiple presidents, it’s time that we do bring our troops home,” she said.

Without directly criticizing Biden, Axne said that the United States needs to work to ensure Afghanistan is a safe place.

“We do need to make sure that it’s a safe place for folks. And first and foremost, we’ve got to get Americans home safely End of story. Obviously, they’re seeing an opportunity, you know, to really have an uprising and push back, they see that they see an opening,” she said.

“We’re going to have to work with other countries and manage that, and I know that’s being discussed right now. But America can’t be though in a place where we’re there from here until perpetuity,” Axne stated.
