DES MOINES, Iowa – Jake Sherman with NBC News reported on Tuesday night that U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, received a second fine for not wearing a mask. The fine was $500. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., implemented a mask mandate for members during their in-person committee work and while on the House floor. She has not relaxed the mandate since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed their guidance.

Miller-Meeks last week urged the House to drop the mask mandate and “return to normal.”
“Yesterday, the CDC issued guidance that fully vaccinated individuals can resume indoor activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing. I am pleased to see the CDC following the science and recommending that fully vaccinated individuals can go without masks indoors,” she said on the House floor. “As Members of Congress, we should not only encourage constituents to get vaccinated, we should be showing them what a ‘return to normal’ looks like and follow the science. According to the Speaker, roughly 75% of our members have received COVID-19 vaccination, and therefore should have the choice to go without masks.”
Miller-Meeks is a licensed physician, has been vaccinated, encouraged Iowans to receive vaccinations, and spent time in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District giving vaccinations, something she tweeted about while back home:

Before serving in Congress and, before that, the Iowa Senate, Miller-Meeks was the director of the Iowa Department of Public Health.
A Republican Party of Iowa spokesperson called her a “workhorse” in the vaccination effort.
“Congresswoman Miller-Meeks has been a workhorse when it comes to promoting and encouraging Iowans to get vaccinated and fight the pandemic. She knows the science,” said Republican Party of Iowa Communications Director Kollin Crompton. “Americans are sick of Pelosi’s political pandemic theatre and stunts.”
