DES MOINES – On Tuesday, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced the appointment of Adam Steen, currently Director of Business Development at Syverson Strege, to serve as director of the Department of Administrative Services. Steen will replace Jim Kurtenbach, who resigned earlier this year. Steen’s appointment was effective January 11, 2021, and is subject to confirmation by the Iowa Senate.
“Adam has an impressive background in finance management, consulting, and making a career out of growing jobs and investing in small businesses across Iowa. I appreciate his business-minded focus and believe it will be a great fit at the state of Iowa’s human resources agency,” Reynolds said. “I know Adam is ready to hit the ground running we expect great things from him.”

Originally from Indianola, Iowa, Adam Steen is a businessman, community volunteer, and lifelong learner. He currently serves as the Director of Business Development at Syverson Strege. Before working at Syverson Strege, Adam owned a senior level management consulting firm, 25 Connections. Outside of his professional career, Adam is a credentialed minister and enjoys serving his church, playing baseball with his boys, and spending time outside at the family farm. He and his wife, Kasey, and two boys, Ryker and Maverick, reside in Pleasant Hill.
