Tim McDermott Named Interim Director of Legislative Services Agency

House Speaker Pat Grassley and Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver announced the appointment of Tim McDermott as Interim Director of the Legislative Services Agency.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley, R-New Hartford, and Iowa Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver, R-Ankeny, announced the appointment of Tim McDermott as Interim Director of the Legislative Services Agency. McDermott will replace Glen Dickinson, who announced his retirement earlier this year, on January 8 after nearly 40 years working with the Iowa Legislature.

Majority Leader Whitver and Speaker Grassley released the following statement regarding the transition in leadership at LSA:

“Glen Dickinson has served Iowa honorably and capably for many years and we thank him for his dedication to our state. We look forward to working with Tim McDermott to maintain the high quality of service provided to members of the Iowa General Assembly by the staff of the Legislative Services Agency.”

Timothy McDermott has worked in state government for over 27 years.  Most of that time has been spent in various positions with the Legislative Services Agency including serving as Division Director of the Legal Services Division, Division Administrator of the Fiscal Services Division, and Senior Legal Counsel with the Legal Services Division.  Prior to that service, Mr. McDermott was a law clerk for both the Supreme Court of Iowa and the Iowa Court of Appeals.  Mr. McDermott holds a B.A. in Business Economics from the College of Wooster and a J.D. from the Wake Forest University School of Law.
